Film Biz Recycling
Franchise.
A proposed operation for material recovery, creative reuse and a coordinated connection between productions and communities.
Material recovery is a beginning.
We are exploring a New Jersey Film Biz Recycling franchise: recovering sets, props, wardrobe and equipment, and connecting them with people who can use them.
The proposed operation would combine reuse, logistics, on-set support and local workforce opportunities. Partnerships and operating arrangements are still being developed.
It would sit alongside our production services: Discovery, Design, Liaison and Story. These help productions plan and carry out giving across materials, skills, access and proceeds.
Reuse within the wider practice.
The proposed reuse operation focuses on materials. Our production services also help productions explore contributions of time, skills and financial support.
Materials
Sets, props, wardrobe, equipment and other surplus can become resources for schools, nonprofits and creative reuse. The proposed operation would match usable materials with recipients and coordinate transfer and intake.
Time & skills
Through our production services, we can explore workshops, set visits, mentorships and screenings with cast, crew and community partners. Each contribution depends on what people want and what the production can offer.
Financial giving
A production may also choose to share proceeds or support a cause or foundation. Discovery and Design help identify those intentions and include them in the production’s plan.
The proposed process
From production planning to community reuse.
Production Intake
The proposed service would start with an inventory of reusable materials, ideally before filming, with another review as wrap approaches.
Match & Coordinate
Match usable materials with organizations that want them, confirming needs, capacity and practical arrangements.
Logistics & Transfer
Agree pickup, transport and intake with the production, recipients and logistics partners.
Documentation
Record what was transferred, who received it and the information available to describe the contribution.
Filmanthropy Impact Report
Bring the available records into a clear account of what was contributed and received.
And, On the Horizon: Two Standing Networks
Sustainable Vendor Directory
A planned directory of New Jersey caterers, materials suppliers, artisans and other local vendors.
Help shape the recipient network
Schools, nonprofits, shelters and community organizations are invited to help shape the proposed reuse network, including what materials they can use and how intake could work.
Building on what is already happening.
The New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission’s NJ Take 2 Upcycling Program already connects productions with local educational, arts and nonprofit organizations that can use surplus sets, wardrobe, building materials and props. It brings sustainability and community benefit together. We celebrate that work.
Our proposed operation would complement this work through material recovery, logistics, recipient relationships and documentation, building on the contributions of pioneers such as EcoSet and Earth Angel.
New Jersey’s film growth brings opportunities for local work, learning and community benefit. We want to support the people making it happen and help productions explore what more they can give. Explore the Filmanthropy Ledger →
