The Essay

The Gift in the Making

The Filmanthropy Ledger is perhaps the first attempt to gather a century of giving in film, every way the making of a movie has given something back to the people and places it touched, and see it as one connected tradition. But it is less a record of what has been done than an argument about what comes next. Something is changing in how films get made, fast, and it is about to make this hundred-year instinct matter more than it ever has.
